The IMEAc was established since 2016 as an autonomous entity within the Consortium of Thai Medical Schools (COTMES). The IMEAc has the following responsibilities:
- collaborate with the Consortium of Thai Medical Schools, medical education institutions and related entities in developing medical education standards as well as accreditation components and indicators in accordance with the criteria and methods of international standards, adopted by the Thai Medical Council and approved by the Office of the Higher Education Commission;
- develop, provide training and advice on medical education standards to medical education institutions and related entities;
- develop, train and manage the register of assessors in medical education standards;
- assess and accredit programs, medical education institutions and medical education standards;
- administer assessment system and process for the accreditation of programs, medical education institutions and medical education standards;
- appoint sub-committees to fulfill IMEAc’s responsibilities;
- perform any other duty as assigned by the Consortium of Thai Medical Schools.

- One (1) representative from the Medical Council of Thailand
- One (1) representative from the Office of the Higher Education Commission
- Two (2) representatives from the Consortium of Thai Medical Schools
- Up to five (5) experts appointed by the Consortium of Thai Medical Schools
- IMEAc Director
Authority of the Executive Board
The Executive Board shall have the following responsibilities:
- determine the assessment system, framework and methods for the accreditation of programs, medical education institutes, and medical education standards in Thailand and overseas, in line with the international standards;
- determine the standards and criteria for the assessment of programs, medical education institutes, and medical education standards;
- provide accreditation for assessors of medical education standards;
- certify the results of assessment of programs, medical education institutes, and medical education standards; and submit the results to the Thai Medical Council and the Office of the Higher Education Commission for approval;
- appoint sub-committees/working teams/working groups to carry out IMEAc’s responsibilities;
- issue announcements and regulations relating to IMEAc;
- endorse budget and expenditure as well as annual report to submit to the Consortium of Thai Medical Schools;
- other responsibilities as assigned by the Consortium of Thai Medical Schools.
